I obtained a new letter earlier today, which bears on the negotiations for payment of David Dagon’s legal expenses.
It reads like a blackmail letter, putting the metaphorical gun to the head of Georgia Tech: Say you approved all this or the University and it’s reputation will be destroyed forever.
It’s not just the fees at stake, it’s an important point for John Durham to make a case. Showing Dagon abused his access in an unauthorized manner is a key point. What’s especially troubling is that Kate Wasch of Georgia Tech had ALREADY said that it wasn’t approved by Georgia Tech:
So here is the new letter from today.
I’m amazed this got out. The state isn’t as refined and zealous in their CYA tactics as the feds are.
I find Rasch’s proposal that GT ally with Dagon to protect some kind of right researchers have to do whatever they want with this type of data to be creepy. But I’ll bet it goes on a lot. Especially if it isn’t a crime. Legislatures need to keep up!
I am astonished you got this - in most FOIAs I've done, legal advice is quite well protected! Amazing stuff.
